The scene opens on the beautiful Canelli estate after the first true snowfall of the season. Snow was piled along the long driveway under the trees that hung low over the driveway full of the bright white snow. The afternoon sun blazed in the sky as people still dug out from the storm, while the kids in the neighborhood built snowmen, and played in the forts that had been built. In the yard of the Canelli estate the strangest thing could be seen. Squirrels were moving through a little fort making snowballs all the while. Inside we see Joanne in her room grabbing her leather jacket out of the closet grabbing her guns off of the bed, and slinging them over her shoulder before heading out the door, and down the stairs toward her office. She walks into her office and walks to a small space in the bottom part of her desk, and soon opens a safe that was hidden. Joanne sets a few piles of what appears to be 100- dollar bills out and counts them before reaching over and putting them into a briefcase. The office door soon opens again, and there stood Reno. She smiles as she looks over at him closing the briefcase heading for the door once again.
Reno: Where are you going?
Joanne: Out.
Reno: It's that time of the month already? Damn I thought we just paid them.
Joanne: No that was last month and we gave them a bonus for the holidays remember?
Reno: Right.
Joanne: I'll be back soon. When I get back we'll order dinner and then maybe you and I can...
Joanne whispers something in his ear, as his eyes get wide. She just smiles and walks out of the office, heading for the garage. This was one thing that she always did by herself, and knew that whatever she offered was always taken with understanding and respect. She walks out into the garage and turns on the lights revealing rows of cars and bikes lining the walls. Her high-heeled shoes click on the cement floor as she heads toward a black bmw with tinted black windows. She gets inside, and it roars to life, as she hits a button on the IPod that was attached to the dashboard. "I Wanna Go" by Britney Spears begins to blare over the speakers as she pulls out of the garage, and down the long driveway.
Joanne: *Voice Over* My first match didn't go the way I had planned but what does that matter now? It was a fluke and yes I am willin' to do whatever it takes to get myself to the top of the company. I don't care who they put me up against because from now on I will not lose. Let Cashman enjoy his victory for now, but one day he'll have to face me again, and when he does he will regret pinnin' me this time around.
She is soon pulling out of the fenced yard, and heading toward the city. The afternoon sun glared off of the bright snow, as it always did. Joanne puts a pair of sunglasses on and continues down the road pushing a little bit more on the gas pedal with each second that passed. She sped past a cop that already had someone pulled over and he just waved as she passed.
Cop: Nice driving Ms. Canelli.
Joanne looks back and smiles and starts to do her makeup in the mirror as she continues to drive along.
Joanne: *Voice Over* I know what you're thinkin' and I really don't care. Jersey belongs to me, and everyone understands that if they listen and show respect to me, then they won't have any problems. That's the way I am in the ring. Show me respect and I won't come after you with everythin' that I have and make you wish you were dead by the time I am done with anyone that stands in my way of gettin' what I want here or anywhere else for that matter.
As she pulls out into the passing lane she nearly clips a cop car, and the lights and siren begin to go off as Joanne sighs, and pulls over to the side with the cop pulling in behind her. She looked in the mirror and didn't recognize him. He had to be one of the new guys that the station had hired. He didn't know who she was but he would soon enough. The young man walked up to her window as it started to come down. Joanne smiles as the young man leans down.
Joanne: Can I help you officer?
Cop: Do you know how fast you were going?
Joanne: I don't know... 55?
Cop: You were going 90 in a 40 ma'am. Can I see your license and registration please?
Joanne nods, and reaches over into the glove compartment and hands him the registration to the car, and soon hands him her license. He walks back to the car, and starts running her name through, as another police car pulls up behind them. Joanne looks in the mirror and smirks seeing a dark haired older man in the same uniform. The younger man gets out of his car and approaches.
Cop: I didn't call for any backup. What are you doing here?
Cop 2: I know you didn't, but someone called it in too. You and I need to have a little chat.
They walk away as Joanne gets out of her car. Bliskin had come to her rescue once again. He made sure the rest of them knew who she was, and made sure that they would turn their heads when things were being done. The young man looks back at Joanne and then back at Bliskin, knowing that he was in trouble, and that was never a good thing. He walks back to where Joanne stood with his eyes lowered.
Cop: Ms. Canelli I'm so sorry for stopping you. I didn't realize who you were at the time. I'll just cancel that ticket and you be on your way.
Joanne: Thank you. Have a nice day.
Cop: You too Ms. Canelli.
The young man gets back into his car, and drives off, leaving Bliskin, and Joanne along the side of the road.
Bliskin: He's new... No one has had a chance to tell him about the ins and outs yet.
Joanne: Don't worry about it. I was just comin' to see you actually.
Bliskin: With my payment?
Joanne: Yes. Remember there are a few others that need to get their cuts too.
Bliskin: I know. I always make sure to share everything don't I?
Joanne smiles as she gets back into her car, as Bliskin closes her door. She puts her license in her purse, and the registration back where she had found it.
Joanne: I'll see you at the station in just a few minutes then.
Bliskin: All right. If I'm not there, then just leave it on my desk, and lock the door behind you.
Joanne: Right. I'll see you later.
With that he steps back, and Joanne peels back out into the interstate cutting someone off. Bliskin just smiles and shakes his head watching her drive off, as the scene fades to black.
Act 2: Payment
The scene opens on the police station in Greenville New Jersey. A few police cars sat in front at the ready for any emergency that was called in. We soon see Joanne step out of the black BMW carrying the briefcase, heading inside. She walks through the front doors and is stopped by a young woman behind a desk.
Woman: Hello Ms. Canelli. Officer Bliskin isn't back yet, but head right in.
Joanne: Thank you.
Woman: But I'm afraid I have to take your guns ma'am. I'll make sure you get them back before you leave though.
Joanne: Right. I almost forgot.
Joanne sets the briefcase down, and removes the leather jacket, and removes the holster with the two desert eagles within. The young woman hits a button, and the door beside her opens. Joanne walks through the door with the briefcase in hand once again. She walks down a long hallway passing a few offices until she reaches the one she needs. Joanne opens the door, and walks inside and sets the briefcase on the desk. As Joanne turns around she sees a figure standing in the doorway. She sighs, as the man folds his arms in front of him knowing what she was doing. He was straight laced, and did everything by the book. He didn't believe in taking bribes, or looking the other way, like most of those in the station.
Officer Johnson: Making your monthly drop Ms. Canelli?
Joanne: What's it matter if I am or not? You're not on the take.
Officer Johnson: Why would I be? I'm not crooked like most of my co-workers. I believe in justice, and what you stand for is wrong. They turn their heads while you bring illegal drugs into the city, and let your men deal it out on the streets.
Joanne: So? We never deal around the schools, and we make sure everythin' is done behind closed doors where no one can see. The addicts are the only ones hurtin'. It was their choice to get hooked wasn't it? No one twisted their arm and said here do this or I'll kill you.
Officer Johnson: You make me sick when you think you're doing the world a service when you are out there letting people kill themselves.
Joanne sighs, knowing that he was going to have to put up with him until she left or at least until Bliskin came and saved her once again.
Joanne: You know I really don't have time for this, and you always seem to bore me whenever we do this.
Officer Johnson: I could have you arrested for harassing an officer.
Joanne: Who's goin' to believe you? Them?
Joanne points to the other officers that are in the station and smirks. Most of them were on payroll, or they just looked the other way.
Officer Johnson: I should report you to the FBI!
Joanne: Good luck with that. They've tried to get me but every time they try they can't find nothin' that will stick. But before you get any ideas, I'll warn you now, you fuck with me, and you will never see me comin'.
Officer Johnson: You just threatened me!
Joanne: No I didn't... I just warned you. Now if you excuse me, I have to go and handle other business before I head home.
Officer Johnson moves out of her way, watching her all the while. He couldn't stand her, but there wasn't much that he could do. She was right; no one would believe him, including the FBI. She was protected on all sides and she was untouchable. Joanne reaches the front desk, and the young woman hands her the guns back, with a soft smile.
Joanne: Jane is it?
Jane: Yes ma'am. What else can I do for you?
Joanne: Tell him that I'm sorry I couldn't stay, but what I left him is on the desk, and tell him I want you to get a cut too.
Jane: Sure thing. Thank you Ms. Canelli, but I really don’t need it.
Joanne: Don't be silly, you can always find somethin' to do with it. See ya later.
Jane: Have a good evening Ms. Canelli.
Joanne smiles softly and heads out the front door, and heads to her car. The sun was already starting to set and another night was coming on. The pink sky cast it's beautiful glow over the city as Joanne headed back to the estate as the scene fades to black.
Act 3: Are you serious?
The scene reopens on Joanne's office. She sits at her desk with a piece of paper sitting in front of her, with the guys standing around her. She's on the phone counting out money into a large pile in front of her.
Joanne: That's right. That's everythin'. Of course we have cash! I know, I know, no credit. I'm so glad that I've put your kids through college with the stuff that we get from you. How long will it take? 20 minutes? Sounds good to me. We'll see you then.
Joanne hangs up the phone and sighs, leaning back in her chair.
Reno: So everything is ordered?
Joanne: Yep. Speedy said we could come and get it in 20 minutes. I can't believe we got that much.
Rude: What? We haven't really had anything all day.
Joanne: Yeah you have a point there.
Outside the high guilded walls a white van with the words "FLOWERS BY IRENE" sat in complete silence. In the back of the van there sat two FBI agents listening in to the last phone call that Joanne had just made. The connection wasn't the best but they had heard enough.
Agent White: This is it. She just made her last mistake.
Agent Jones: It kind of sounded like they were ordering dinner to me.
Agent White: That's what she wants you to think. We finally have enough evidence to get her and bring the Canelli family down once and for all.
Agent Jones: I don't know... Are you sure about this?
Agent White looks over at his partner and gets in the drivers seat and wait for the gates to open. They didn't have to wait long. The limo soon pulls out and heads down the street toward an unknown location. Inside the limo Joanne's cell phone rings. She sighs and answers it, as she looked out the window watching the city pass by.
Joanne: Hello? This is she. I'm ready for another match. I don't care who you put me up against. Who? Classy J? Really? No, no, I'll be there. Sure thin'.
With that Joanne hangs up the phone and stares out the window. She couldn't believe it. She was going up against the one guy that she had met on the first day that she actually liked. He was different and had shown respect to her without even realizing it.
Reno: You have to face that guy that you were talking to when we first got here?
Rude: Shit. I thought he was pretty cool. Why do they have you facing him?
Joanne: I don't know. I know neither of us have anythin' against each other. I mean he seemed like an all right guy to me.
Scarpaci: He wasn't an asshole like that other guy.
Joanne: Yeah I know. This is goin' to be one hell of a match though. At least I know he's not goin' to take it easy on me, but it's goin' to be a match with respect.
Reno: He's probably thinking the same thing you are. Why in the hell did they put you guys in the same match?
Joanne: Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter now anyway.
They soon arrive at a strip mall filled with a few stores and one small strange looking restaurant with a sign that read:
"SPEEDY'S CHINESE AND PIZZA EMPORIUM"
They all get out of the car, and head inside as a little bell over the door rings. A short man of Chinese decent waves and walks out from the kitchen.
Speedy: You 5 minutes late. I not surprised everything not cold yet!
Joanne: Sorry, but we had somethin' to do.
Rude: Yeah. We had to drop something off. Is everything ready?
Speedy: Yeah, yeah, yeah... Everything ready and has been for last 5 minute.
Joanne sighs, knowing that Speedy wasn't known for his patience, and some days were better than others with him.
Joanne: How much do we owe you?
Speedy: 210. You're order is bigger then usually is.
Joanne: I have no idea why.
She looks back at Reno and Rude and sighs knowing the full reason of why their order was bigger than usual. She hands him a wad of bills, and soon they are heading out the door, when the sound of crashing glass made everyone stop in their tracks. A swat team from the FBI crashed through the doors and the windows with weapons drawn.
Agent White: FREEZE! PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!
The guys set the stuff down on the tables, and put their hands up as Joanne sighs. They must have been listening in on a wire tap. She would have to get that fixed.
Joanne: What in the hell do you think you're doin'?
Agent White: Taking you in.
Joanne: For what? Orderin' dinner?
Reno: Is that illegal now?
Speedy: Hey! Who going to pay for damages?
Agent Jones: We'll make sure to put that in our report sir.
Speedy: I don't know why you arresting them... They my best customers.
Agent White: So you admit your guilt in this too huh? What's in the boxes?
Joanne: Dinner. You can check if you want, but I'm tellin' you right now, you empty any of it, and you'll be payin' for everythin'.
Agent White: I'm sure. This is just a front for your deals.
Joanne just sighs, as they start opening the boxes and bags they were heading out with.
Joanne: Well what did you find?
Agent White looks up, as the sound of sirens could be heard coming toward them. Joanne smirks knowing what was about to happen, and it wasn't going to be a good thing. Bliskin would make them look like complete idiots, and make sure they wouldn't do something like this again.
Rude: Looks like you guys caught us...
Scarpaci: Yeah, ordering dinner. Are you people stupid or something?
Agent Jones: We are going to be in so much trouble.
Reno: You don't know the half of it.
Bliskin walks in what is left of the door and shakes his head, knowing what had happened.
Bliskin: Well Agent White it looks like you are harassing one of most outstanding citizens.
Agent White: But we over heard her on the wiretap, and she was getting a shipment in.
Bliskin: An illegal wiretap? That's not something I would have admitted too. If I were you I would apologize to Ms. Canelli before she puts in a call into one of her uncles on the senate.
Agent White: Ms. Canelli, we're sorry for any inconvenience that we have caused you tonight. We'll pay for the damages and you can be on your way.
Joanne: Good... Apology accepted. Make sure you board up Speedy's door and windows, and have someone here first thin' in the mornin' to fix everythin', or I will make a call that you don't want me to make.
Agent Jones: Yes Ms. Canelli.
Speedy: Good. I open at 10. Be here at least 4 hours ahead of time. I not lose business because of you.
With that the FBI agents and swat team head out and into their vans, as Joanne smiles all the while.
Joanne: Did you see their faces?
Reno: Good thing they didn't look in the trunk.
Rude: Yeah really though.
Bliskin: Let me guess... The shipment?
Joanne: How did you ever guess? Make sure you get those wiretaps out of the house for us tomorrow.
Bliskin: Not a problem. I'll be by sometime tomorrow. Until then use only your cell phones, and not the land line.
Joanne: Right. Thanks again.
Bliskin nods, and heads back to his car, as Joanne and the boys grab their stuff and head out to the limo that is waiting for them as the scene fades to black.
Act 4: Words of Wisdom
The scene reopens on Joanne's bedroom late into the night. The clock on the nightstand read 2:30am, and Joanne tossed and turned lost in a restless sleep. She soon sits up, and looks over at the clock and sighs. It was still early, and she couldn't sleep. It might have been what they had earlier that evening or it could be the fact that this match between her and Classy J wasn't something she was really looking forward too. Joanne sighs and gets out of the bed, wearing a little thin outfit that revealed her curves, and her large breasts before she wrapped herself in a heavy robe, and moved to the window that overlooked the balcony and the yard below.
Joanne: *Voice Over* This week when we face off Classy, I don't know what to expect, and I know you feel the same. I don't know why they are callin' this a grudge match, since we have nothin' against each other, or faced each other until now. Whatever the reason behind it, it really doesn't matter to me anyway. This match is goin' to be a little bit different considerin' you have actually shown me respect and that always goes a long way with me.
Joanne looks back at Reno who is sound asleep lost in dream, while she was awake with no hope of going back to sleep. She turns back to the window, and looks up at the moon that was shinning brightly over the yard and the snow that had fallen.
Joanne: *Voice Over* I don't know why this is botherin' me as much as it is. I don't let anythin' stand in my way I'm in the ring. I've faced friends before, and it always seemed to do the same thin' to me. I mean I hardly know you and yet I'm feelin' this way. My first match I botched, and now I have to redeem myself, and if that means I have to bring you down this week then I'll have to do it, just to gain my first win, and show the world and everyone in the back, that I'm not afraid. I'm not goin' to stand here and tell you that I'm goin't to beat you, because this is nothin' more than a game of chance, and thin's can turn very easily in a short amount of time. But that doesn't mean I'm not goin' to try and bring you down, because I know you will do the same, and not stop until you or I are the winner of this match.
Reno stirs in his sleep, as Joanne heads for the door, and out into the darkened hallway. She makes her way down the hallway and into the silence of the house. Guards shadows moved across the window as they made their rounds, keeping a watchful eye on the grounds as she slept peacefully inside. She heads toward the living room and sits on the black leather couch alone, until the little white cat jumped up on her lap, and purred loudly. Joanne smiles softly and starts petting its head as she stared out the window once again.
Joanne: *Voice Over* Thursday night tell me Classy, are you goin' to give me a match that I won't forget or will you just give me half of what you are capable of doin' in that ring? I will give it my all, but whatever the outcome I will extend my hand and show you the respect that you have shown me from the very beginnin'. We'll give them a match they will never forget, we are warriors that will be locked in a battle that neither one of us want to lose, but one of us will, no matter what we put into this. I will do everythin' and anythin' to win this match, but remember Classy, it's not personal, it's just business. We are the Mafioso, and we get paid to kick your ass. See you soon.
Joanne picks up the cat, and walks to the large bay window and watches the snow sparkle as the moon moved across the sky. All that could be heard is the sound of purring from the cat she was in her arms, as the scene fades to black.
