The scene opens backstage, and Ashley Thorns is standing in the interview room holding a microphone. Beside her is Roy Speede, who is in his ring gear and also holding a microphone.
Ashley Thorns: “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m standing here with Roy Speede, one of the founding men in the United Wrestling Alliance. Now Roy, you’re going to be one of the wrestlers competing in the very first UWA show; how does that make you feel?”
Roy Speede: “Well, Miss Thorns, starting this company up from the ground is exciting for me; I’ve never really been an instrumental figure in the beginning stages of an organization before, much less a key ingredient in the start of a wrestling federation. Competing in the inaugural Monday Night Rush Hour show is an incredible feeling to me, and I especially love the fact that I’m one of the guys introducing the fans to the group.”
Ashley Thorns: “So you’re planning to stay with the company for a while? I’ve heard rumors that you’re only competing a few matches before planning to take over behind the scenes. What do you have to say about these rumors?”
Roy Speede: “In all honesty, I’m not sure how things are going to go. There aren’t that many active competitors around here, and I know I’m a big part of that locker room. I know a couple of the guys here, and I’ve always known them to be appreciative of the mood I try to bring to the atmosphere of the organization. I’d love to help out behind the scenes, but wrestling is my passion. If at all possible, I’m going to try to do both.”
Ashley Thorns: “What are your thoughts on the way Ryan Blake and Matthew Jackson are leading the company? Is it that you don’t think they’re doing a good job that you want to step in behind the scenes and help out?”
Roy Speede: “Mr. Blake and Mr. Jackson are doing phenomenal to assemble and hold together this company. I can’t deny, though, that they could use a little more guidance. I’ve known Ryan Blake for a while now, and he’s the one who convinced me to take the next step in my career and join the United Wrestling Alliance, but I’ve never seen any of Mr. Jackson’s work before. I certainly think the first few weeks for the UWA will be interesting, if nothing else.”
Ashley Thorns: “Okay, and what about your opponent, Andy Star? Anything you want to say to your competition for the week?”
Roy Speede: “To be exact, Miss Thorns, there isn’t much that needs to be said to him. I haven’t heard of nor seen nor heard anything from the guy before, and the only thought running through my head is that I’m going to be teaching a rookie this week. Inexperience isn’t a major problem, but against someone with more experience like myself, he definitely has a disadvantage.
I haven’t any problems with Andy, but the New York native is going to have to give everything he’s got to beat me. Just because I’m facing the new kid, I’m not going to go easy on him. Andy Star may be an incredible wrestler for all I know about him, but I’m ready for anything and everything. I’ve understood that he, too, is a friend of Mr. Blake, so he must have some talent.
But no matter where he’s from or where he’s been, he has never faced a talent the likes of The Silver Lining, Roy Speede. I am a former tag team champ and a two time United States Champion, and I’ve wrestled all across North America; people everywhere know the name Roy Speede, and millions more will learn of my abilities before I’m done. That all begins again with tonight when I step in that ring to go toe-to-toe, fist-to-fist, head-to-head with the man known as Andy Star. And when the ref slaps the mat, one, two, three, it will be the hand of Roy Speede raised in victory. And that is the Silver Lining.”
Ashley Thorns: “Well, we’re out of time. Roy, it was nice meeting you, and good luck in your match tonight.”
The scene cuts to black.
