On the Moon Somewhere
Section 1
“Geez,” exclaimed Manabu to himself as he sat at top of the bleachers. He had on a blue button-up shirt, a tan pair of cargo shorts, and some boat shoes.
Cammy’s first game was today. The L.A. Vikings home field was near the ocean, which had it positives and negatives. Because it was close to the ocean, it made the surrounding area very breezy, almost cold.
This coldness was bothering Manabu, but, he had prepared for this very incident. Next to
Manabu is a gym bag. Manabu digs through the bag a little until he finds what he is looking for. He pulls out a small fleece blanket and wraps it around himself. He then looks down back at the field.
The game is about 20 minutes in, but Cammy has yet to enter the game.
“I hope they put her in soon,” says Manabu to himself.
Manabu leans back and pulls the fleece even tighter. The breeze hits him in the face. Manabu looks around him; there are only 20 or so people in the stands. Manabu closes his eyes a bit, trying to relax.
The past few weeks had been very taxing for Manabu. To be honest, he really wasn’t feeling like himself. He had felt a bit unmotivated, and it had begun to show in his in-ring work. His father called to offer advice; it didn’t help Manabu too much. The only person who could comfort him was Cammy.
Manabu opens his eyes and takes another glance at the field.; she still hasn’t been put in. Manabu closes his eyes again.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“What the hell have I become?
“Three weeks ago I was on top of the world. I was the world champion—now I’m wrestling dark matches against scrubs. What kind of sick irony is that?
“This company, this company kills me. In one instant, they thrust me towards the title picture. The next moment, they try their damnedest to toss me out of the title picture. A now, I’m barely on the card?”
Manabu sighs.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“Let’s be clear, I brought UWA to new heights by myself!
“Ryan Blake my own the company, be he d*** sure isn’t the face of the company. I was out in that ring busting my a**, spilling my blood. I was putting butts in seats. UWA fans come to see Manabu Fujiwara, not Joanne or Blake!
“What would happen if I just said ‘f*** UWA’ and left the company?”
Manabu laughs a bit.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“Those fools at UWA wouldn’t know what to do then.
“But I’d never do that. You see, that’s the way of honor; that’s a cowards move. And I may not be the UWA Champion any longer, but I am no coward!”
Manabu is silent for a few moments. He then puts on a large smirk.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“When I first joined UWA, I had a few goals in mind. One was to find new competition and get better. But, another was to dominate. You see I fully came into UWA thinking I could beat anyone and everyone. And for the most part, I proved that I could do that. It was dangerous to step into the ring with me; Callahan learned that, among many others.
“Let me tell you something, there is a lot of pressure when you are the champion. The weight of the company is on your shoulders. Every match you wrestler is for the company, not for yourself.
“But guess what, that weight is gone now. And you know what, I’m feeling light and fit.
“If you thought I was a monster a few months ago, you aren’t going to want to see me in this upcoming weeks. No, I’m not looking to reclaim my title just yet; Joanne, you can make note of that. My plan, however, is to dominate UWA once again. I’m going to bring UWA to it’s knees, only to pick it right back up. I’m going to prove that there is one legend in the making, and that man is Manabu Fujiwara!”
Manabu laughs lightly.
He then opens up his eyes. He had been expecting people to stare at him, but, no one was really paying him any attention.
Manabu looks down at the field, because it seems the Vikings are making a substitution.
Announcer:
“Making her first appearance this season—Cammy Torrow!”
Cammy looks up and smiles at Manabu before running to the field. Manabu gives her a smile and wave.
Section 2
The camera fades in as we see Manabu sitting in the middle of the ring. We can’t see his face at the moment; he has on a Gray hoodie, which is covering his face at the moment. Manabu has his arms around his knees and his head is facing down.
The camera lingers on this shot for a few moments until Manabu begins to show some movement. Manabu slowly raises his head until the camera is able to focus on his eyes.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“Jasper…
“…Who is Jasper? A whisper in the wind?
“You see , Jasper joined UWA shortly after I did. And, what has he done since then? Absolutely nothing! Jasper has competed in ONE match here in UWA; I’m not sure of the outcome. And let’s be serious, do we all really care about said outcome? None of UWA fan’s are going to the arena to see him—hell, they aren’t even coming to see Joanne. UWA fans want to see the best in the world, UWA wants to see Manabu Fujiwara.
“Ha, I don’t even know why I’m addressing you Jasper; it’s not like you are going to show up anyway. No one has seen you in months.
“Maybe that’s a good thing for you though, because it’s not like you would actually win this match anyway. I could give 35 percent out there in the ring and still crush your head.”
Manabu laughs a bit.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“Face the facts Jasper, you are being feed to the wolves here. No one expects you to win—this match is nothing but a tune-up for me.
“I don’t know, maybe the officials at UWA thought I needed some kind of confidence boost.
“I don’t, but, if you all want to give me a free win, then I’ll gladly take it.
“I mean, come on, Manabu Vs. Jasper doesn’t even sound right now does it? I’m an ex-world champion, and I’m currently in the second round of the ‘God of Wrestling’ tournament. Hell, our current UWA Champion got her a** kicked in the first round of that tournament. Ha, so what does that say about me? Let me break that down Jasper, that means that I’m an even tougher challenger than facing the champion.
“In short, it means you have a snowball’s chance in Hell of defeating me.
“But you already knew that right?
“Jasper, you are nothing but a poor-man’s Fear. And come on, let’s be real, Fear isn’t that great of a wrestler either. Which basically means you are the reject version of a scrub. How does that make you feel Jasper?”
Manabu holds up his hand.
Manabu Fujiwara:
“Save your answers, I really don’t care what you have to say sir.
“The only thing that matters to me right now is what I think. And I think that you have no f*****g business stepping into the ring with me. We are two different types of wrestlers Jasper. I pride myself on my aggression, on my skills. You are nothing but a stolen gimmick, and a terrible one at that! I’m elite, and you are just a bottom-feeder. You don’t deserve to be in this company, the very company that I brought name-recognition to.
“This week you are going to understand why I was the champ.
“And honestly, I feel sorry for you kid. I’ve got a lot of aggression built up over the past couple of weeks, and you are going to be on the business-end of things.
“Sorry about your luck.”
The camera backs away from Manabu before it fades out.
END.
