*The camera opens on the modest home of Mia and Sakura Lang in the early hours of the day. The camera pans on the exterior in it's peaceful serenity. As we slowly fade into the interior we see Sakura laying on a modest futon in the living room. The orange glow of the early morning sun illuminating her form. Her soft angelic face glowing as the bird's chirp outside the window. It is a scene of quiet serenity. A scene broken by a loud cry of excitement...*
Girl's Voice (Off Camera): AI-YAH!!!
*The loud scream of exclamation causes the house to reverberate. The birds take off out of the trees and Sakura goes up like a shot. Her body poised in a quick reaction. She looks about quickly, her eyes darting back and forth until they spot her sister standing in the doorway, her cellphone in hand with a huge smile upon her face.*
Sakura: Si... sis? What's going...?
Mia: The Titles!
Sakura: What?
Mia: They're giving us a shot at the titles! Already! Can you believe it?!
*Sakura slowly stood in her pajamas, sleepily rubbing her eyes. She wasn't quite sure what was going on but she could tell from her sister's reaction it was big news.*
Sakura: What titles?
*Mia grabs Sakura by the shoulders shaking her violently.*
Mia: What do you mean 'what titles?', the tag titles of course!
*She stops shaking only to have Sakura respond in a soft voice of acceptance*
Sakura: That's great, sis.
Mia: Great? GREAT?! THIS IS INCREDIBLE! WE'RE GOING TO BE THE YOUNGEST CHAMPIONS IN THE UWA! I wonder what convinced them to give us a shot? I bet it was my incredible skill... yeah that's it. Why I bet I impressed them when I...
*Sakura drifted off. She was happy to see her sister so excited but her mind did wonder what caused the sudden interest in them for the tag team position. Then suddenly she thought back to last thursday and the meeting she had with one of the higher ups. A man by the name of Ryan Blake.*
Ryan (Flashback): I'm going to make you a deal. Over the next couple of weeks I am going to challenge you. If you pass my challenges, and show me that you can handle yourself out there, I'll let you stay. Does that sound fair?
Sakura (Flashback): Ai, Mr. Blake, thank you so much.
*She pondered. Could this be what he meant? She wasn't sure. An opportunity like this rarely came around. Could he have done this as part of his "test"?*
Sakura: Hmmm. I wonder...
Mia: ... and then we'll go paint the town red. Literally, like red and green and pink, bright colors! And then I'll show my new belt to Tenchi and he'll love me and we'll get married and have two children called Kenchi and Mya! OMG we have to hurry and get ready! I can't wait to tell everyone at school that...
*Mia turned rapidly and tripped over the hallway rug. In an instant the graceful Otaku Angel was once more on her face butt up in the air. Sakura looked at her with deep concern.*
Sakura: Are you alright, Sis?
*Mia threw up a weak thumbs up*
Mia: Never better.
*The camera picks up with them walking slowly to school. The two matching stride as they walk in the cool morning breeze. Mia tossed her arms up stretching a bit as Sakura stared forward meekly. She was distracted. The match she was in last week was relatively easy. But that was when she was an unknown. Emma hadn't seen her coming. This week would be different. Sakura knew that. She was slightly worried. As if reading her mind Mia quickly chimed in.*
Mia: So, you think anybody watched us this past week?
*Sakura looked away rather embarrassed. She had overheard people talking all week. Mostly the boys in her class. They threw her funny looks, glances, she could feel their eyes upon her. Measuring her. It was difficult but sakura kept her silence proudly ignoring the growing feeling of unease.*
Sakura: I... I'm not sure. Maybe.
Mia: Don't let it bother you. I remember when I started out everybody hounded me week end to week out. 'Mia can I have an interview?' "Mia can I take your picture?' 'Mia, is it true you made out with a guy dressed in a power ranger uniform?'
Sakura: What?!
Mia: The point is, let people talk. It doesn't matter what they think. All that matters is how you feel about things. Did you enjoy your match last week?
*Sakura thought back and remembered, the beat of the music, the roar of the crowd, the feeling of flesh and bones put to the test. The crowd in an uproar.*
Sakura: Well, I did rather enjoy it...
Mia: Exactly. So don't worry about it. You got what it takes, sis. Believe me. You and me. We're going places.
*Sakura blushed a bit and smiled softly at her big sister in approval.*
Sakura: Thanks, sis.
Mia: Don't mention it.
Sakura: So, sis?
Mia: Yeah?
Sakura: Have you ever been a champion?
Mia: Yeah. Women's champion once or twice.
Sakura: What's it like?
Mia: Awesome! You really feel invincible with a belt around your waist. Trust me, Sakura, you'll never feel anything better.
*Sakura smiled happily as they both walked to school.
The camera reopens on Sakura as she sits in class. Her eyes wandering to the cherry blossom tree outside once more. Around her she heard them all. her classmates speaking in hushed whispers.*
Boy 1: hey isn't that Sakura? Mia's sister?
Boy 2: Yeah, did you hear that her sister got her into wrestling in the states?
Boy 1: What really?
Boy 2: Yeah, I saw the match last thursday. Brutal. She beat one of the girls so bad it wasn't even funny.
Girl 1: What's a girl like that doing in school here still?
Girl 2: I don't know but I wouldn't mess with her.
Girl 1: She's such a weirdo anyway.
Girl 2: Better not let her hear you say that. She might punch your lights out.
Boy 3: Did you see her beat that Emma Sinclair? She was so hot!
Boy 4: Seriously, dude?
Boy 3: She could beat me up any day.
Boy 4: What kind of guy would like a girl like that? Talk about butch.
*Sakura could hear them. All the comments. The conversations aimed at her. But she remembered the cheers. She remembered the action. She sat and stared, the lonely girl with the sad eyes staring out the window.*
Sakura (Voice Over): Me? A champion? Do I have what it takes? Did I really win last week? The whole thing just seems like a really vivid dream. I remember standing and staring up. The lights all on me. The crowd chanting my name. Nobody expected much of me. Now, everyone expects so much from me. Do I really have what it takes?
*The camera picks up with Sakura as she walks home from Aikido practice. The setting sun showing bright orange once more, blazing like fire in the sky. Slowly she walks. Her head down. Her mind wandering once more. Her thoughts falling back on her next match. her next opportunity. Her next challenge.*
Sakura (Voice Over): Can I really do it again? Can I win? I just don't know. I mean I have sis behind me... but is it enough? I mean, I'm not a professional. Is Mr. Blake trying to weed me out? Trying to prove i don't belong. Maybe I really don't belong...
*Suddenly she stops as something catches her eye. Two Tomcats fighting on the side of the road. A larger white cat hisses loudly as a smaller black cat stands in defiance. She watches as the Black Cat charges. It strikes with flurries, it moves with tenacity even as the White cat tears back into it like a roaring Lion. The larger cat makes a hard swipe at the smaller cats face. Knocking it away and carving a cruel trail of scars upon the smaller cat's face. The black cat collapses once even as the white cat begins to walk away. But suddenly the black cat rises and sways and with a quick surge of energy charges and jumps the white cat, with a tearing of fur and a flurry of claws the White Cat runs away in a sudden burst of terror leaving the smaller cat standing in victory for a brief moment before it collapses. Sakura rushes over and examines the scratches on the small cat.*
Sakura: You poor thing. You shouldn't fight like that. Still... you won didn't you?
*Suddenly the realization hit Sakura as well.*
Sakura (Voice over): You didn't give up did you? You fought someone stronger, someone better than you and you beat him. All because you didn't give up. You fought like I should fight. I shouldn't quit because others might not think I'm as good as them or just because people think I don't belong. I'll show them I belong. I'll show them what I can do. Just like you did.
*Sakura takes off her school jacket and scoops the poor tattered tomcat up. Cradling it in her arms It winces but looks up at her with soft green eyes, she smiles at it and gently runs a hand upon the top of it's head. it purrs softly in return as she giggles softly.*
Sakura: Well you won so I guess you get your reward. I don't have a belt but I have something to eat and a nice warm house. Come on, little champion. Let's go home.
*And with that she walks on cradling the cat in her arms as the scene fades to black.*
Girl's Voice (Off Camera): AI-YAH!!!
